Summertime
Auf der Autobahn begegnet man ihnen ständig: Tiertransporter, an denen man vorbeifährt, ohne wirklich hinzusehen. „Summertime" greift genau diesen kurzen Moment auf – und dreht ihn um.
Die Animation erzählt von einem Schweinetransport bei Sommerhitze, als eine einzige, durchgehende Kamerafahrt ohne sichtbaren Schnitt. Der Blick bewegt sich durch eine sommerliche Idylle – Sonne, Ferienstimmung, ein Hund mit dem Kopf im Fahrtwind. Erst nach und nach wird deutlich, aus welcher Perspektive man die ganze Zeit geschaut hat: von innen, aus dem Transporter heraus. Mir ging es darum, den Blickwinkel zu verschieben – von „ich sehe" zu „ich werde gesehen". Der Kontrast zwischen unbeschwertem Sommer und dem, was sich wenige Meter entfernt abspielt, trägt die Geschichte, ganz ohne erhobenen Zeigefinger.
„Summertime" ist Teil von In a Spin – Stories, meinem fortlaufenden Format, das den Umgang mit Tieren sichtbar macht: nicht belehrend, sondern über einen Perspektivwechsel, den man im Alltag leicht übersieht.
Ein Detail bildete den Ausgangspunkt: Schweine können nicht schwitzen – nur an der Rüsselscheibe. Durch die Lüftungsöffnungen strecken sie sie nach draußen, als einzigen Zugang zu etwas kühlerer Luft.
You encounter them constantly on the highway: livestock trucks that you drive past without really looking. "Summertime" captures that very moment—and turns it around. The animation tells the story of a pig transport during the summer heat, presented as a single, continuous camera shot with no visible cuts. The view moves through a summer idyll—sunshine, a holiday atmosphere, a dog with its head in the breeze. Only gradually does it become clear from whose perspective we have been watching all along: from the inside, looking out of the truck. My aim was to shift the perspective—from "I see" to "I am being seen." The contrast between a carefree summer and what is unfolding just a few meters away drives the story, without ever being preachy. "Summertime" is part of *In a Spin – Stories*, my ongoing project that highlights how we treat animals—not through moralizing, but by offering a shift in perspective that is easily overlooked in everyday life. A single detail served as the starting point: pigs cannot sweat—except through the tips of their snouts. They stick them out through the ventilation openings as their only access to slightly cooler air.
